Guide
Instagram export guide
Bring the correct export and follow these steps to avoid confusion.
Before you start
- • An Instagram data export in JSON format.
- • Time for Instagram to prepare the download email or notification.
- • The ZIP file saved on your phone or computer.
How to download your export
- 1. On mobile: Settings and privacy → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
- 2. On desktop: instagram.com → Settings → Privacy and security → Download your information.
- 3. Request a complete export in JSON format.
- 4. Wait for the email or link, then download the ZIP.
What to select in SecureFollow
- • Select followers.json (accounts that follow you).
- • Select following.json (accounts you follow).
- • If you upload the ZIP, choose the files or folders with those names.
- • If you see multiple exports, pick the most recent one.
If your export looks different
- • Some exports nest data in folders like connections/followers_and_following.
- • Older exports can use different filenames—look for “followers” and “following”.
- • If you only received one file, request a full export again.
If something fails
- • ZIP won’t open or feels corrupted → re-download the export.
- • Format errors → confirm the files are JSON (not HTML or CSV).
- • Missing files → include both followers and following files.
Everything runs locally in your browser—no login, no uploads, and nothing leaves your device.
